Knowledge skills are created by the Scholar major skill and can be awarded by a GM if a character would be knowledgable on a certain subject.
The required DC for a certain piece of knowledge is usually left to the GM's discretion but the following table can be used as a guideline:
DC | Obscurity of knowledge |
---|---|
5 | Common knowledge. Might be known by someone who hasn't particularly studied the subject. |
10 | Someone who has studied a subject extensively should know this but it might not be obvious to beginners researching it. |
15 | A real expert would be expected to know this, but it might be a random fact that someone less knowledgable on the subject as a whole would know. |
20 | Most experts would know this, but not all. There is a non-zero chance of a beginner to the subject knowing it, but it isn't likely. |
25 | When just starting out researching something there is bascially no way you would find this information. It would take serious study and some luck to find it. |
30 | Hidden knowledge that even the greatest of experts might need a degree of luck to have stumbled upon. |
