The following is information that just about anyone should know, barring wilful ignorance, terminal stupidity, or some other fringe reason from a character's backstory (eg. they have lost their memeory entirely). This can be used as a blurb to help players decide which deity they would like to follow (if any).
This is information that anyone who has gone out of their way to learn would very easily find. Someone with Knowledge (relgiion) as a skill would automatically know this information. Someone who is a follower of a deity would know the General Knowledge for that deity.
This represents information about a deity that is less well known, but not intentionally hidden. With a little research you should be able to find this information. A Knowledge (religion) roll of 15 should suffice to divine information from the Advanced Knowledge section. A follower of the deity would only need to roll a 10. A more devout follower may know this information automatically.
Obscure Knowledge represents what only the most devout followers of a religion would know about. For somoene outside of the relgion to find this information, it would take significant research. A knowledge (religion) roll of 25 would be required. Followers of the religion would have this reduced to 20.
Noctoria is ultimately opposed to Tanselia. Therefore, as an insult, to show the world how pathetic Tanselia’s magic is, Noctoria bestowed an artefact to her most trusted followers: the Hankaniri mask. This horrific device, once activated, sears itself into the flesh and bone of the wearer, rendering them unable to remove the mask. Once it is firmly attached, the mask will prevent the wearer from sleeping. After a hellish existence, the wearer will eventually (after 1d20+20 days) die from insomnia. However, in death, the wearer will still not find their release. Despite the body being dead, the soul is trapped inside and is unable to lose consciousness. All of the humanity in a soul trapped in this manner slowly decays until the still breathing corpse is no more than instincts, rage and eternal sorrow.
Victims of the mask were often left in tombs, mausoleums and other places that the church of Noctoria wished to have protected. While the Hankaniri victims would attack people on sight, they weren't the real threat. The threat was intended as the implication that should you be caught, this is what will be done to you.
Reapers are a subset of Noctoriat demons responsible for collecting the souls of the dead from mortal remains and bringing them to the appropriate afterlife They usually will only need a small blade for rending the soul from its remains, but will use larger tools like scythes for big catastrophes or battles.
A soul can become detached from its mortal remains on its own, however. This usually occurs when the death was particularly violent or the remains have been completely destroyed through mundane means before a Reaper could arrive. When this happens, the soul will usually be lost in the material plane and appear to the living as a ghost. When a ghost exists this way, they are referred to as a Lost Soul.
Less common, although not unheard of, if a soul simply refuses to go with the Reaper, the Reaper will not force them, and the soul will be left to linger in the material plane. When a ghost exists in this way, they are known as a Lingerer.
Lost Souls usually end up confused about who and where they are. They may not be noticed by the living, by other ghosts or even by demons. When they are noticed, their presence is usually fleeting and unimpactful. Often, lost souls are stuck in the emotional state they were in when they died and this will be manifested in how they behave if and when they are seen.
Lingerers are usually a lot more conscious of the fact that they are dead. They will often have decided to stay for a reason and take conscious steps towards that goal. For example, if a Lingerer stayed to protect their home, they will likely remain in and attempt to attack people that come across the house.
